Philosophy
JazzBXL is a full-time school that teaches all aspects of Jazz. Its philosophy is to help students advance in their musical career by way of education, training and personal attention. Development of skills is one of the primary goals of our program.
We believe that self-discipline is a prerequisite to instrumental mastery, that experience is essential in making music, and that open-mindedness and curiosity are necessary requirements for creativity. Our program encompasses all relevant styles of music and provides access to current technologies for recording.
Goals:
- By offering as broad a program as possible, our intent is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and polish their skills at a professional level
- To provide students with a place where their creativity can be freely expressed and cultivated
- Broadly based on traditions of Jazz, Classical and Pop Music, our program is distinctly current in terms of content and approach
- A strong emphasis is placed on practical or hands-on experience. This means that a majority of class time will be spent in group or solo practice, as well as in the conversion of theory into practice.
- JazzBXL offers many opportunities for group practice and performance
- Our structured teaching method, presented by way of modules, we strive to provide students with as great a level of clarity and insight as possible
- A range of techniques is offered to help strengthen and broaden the student’s personal sense of creativity and expression
- The eclectic nature of our program opens up a broad range of flexibility in musical styles and contexts
- It is within this framework that the school offers the possibility for recording in a professional studio, the advantage being that students learn to objectively view their own personal development in a group setting
- Ultimately, JazzBXL’s objective is the highest possible professional level for its students
