Part-time program

At Jazz BXL you can get trained in any theoretical or practical aspect of music separately.

Combo lessons

The student will be grouped together with those who are into the full-time program.
The student will have to do a test in order to get a picture of his level.
The student is expected to be available for the exams and recordings and other performances.
A combo consists of drums, bass, piano, guitar, saxophone and voice.
Students will practice jazz standards from different periods using various styles.
Chords and changes are analysed. How to build, interpret and phrase a melody as well as the correct way of phrasing are taught.
Students are taught how to make an arrangement with backings as well as how to harmonize melodies and the characteristics of various styles.
Styles to be covered: a. o.: bebop hard bop, fusion, world music, salsa, Cuban and more.
Playing in a combo requires certain skills to be gradually developed through the training.
Students will learn to interact with fellow musicians.
They will be given the tools needed to create their own musical ideas in order to achieve a personal identity.
As well, they will be given the opportunity to hand in and perform their own compositions.

Every lesson takes 90 minutes and takes place once a week

Costs

10 lessons of 90 minutes each, for €200,-

Instrumental class

The student will be given all technical and musical material customized for him.
The hour will be arranged together with the teacher.
One lesson takes 30 minutes.

Costs

10 lessons of 30 minutes each, for €200,-

Reading class

The student will be grouped together with those who are into the full-time program which runs from Monday till Friday 10 am till 7 pm. The student will have to do a test in order to get a picture of his level.
With the help of specially composed reading exercises students will learn to master all rhythmic and melodic aspects of musical notation.

One lesson takes 45 minutes
