Combo

 

A combo consists of drums, bass, piano, guitar, saxophone and voice.

Students will practice jazz standards from different periods using various styles.

Chords and changes are analysed.

How to build, interpret and phrase a melody as well as the correct way of phrasing are taught.

Students are taught how to make an arrangement with backings as well as how to harmonize melodies and the characteristics of various styles.

Styles to be covered: a.o. :bebop hard bop, fusion, world music, salsa, Cuban and more.

 

Playing in a combo requires certain skills to be gradually developed through the training.

Students will learn to interact with fellow musicians.

They will be given the tools needed to create their own musical ideas in order to achieve a personal identity. As well, they will be given the opportunity to hand in and perform their own compositions.
